Administrative History | Reid was an early pioneer of the methodology and application of anthropometric research as an aid and companion to anatomy and anthropology. However, like his predecessor, Sir John Struthers, he continued to place a high value on the role of dissection in gaining an understanding of the human body, and maintained a record of 'variations' from the norm observed during dissections.
He encouraged his students to participate in the anthropometric research of the Department of Anatomy and quickly recognised their potential as a constant pool of new subjects for the Department's research in this area. His students were also encouraged to record variations observed during their practical anatomy classes and to present these for discussion at the meetings of their Anatomical and Anthropological Society. |
