Title | Plan of the Lands of Culsh, New Deer |
Date | 1768 |
Extent | 1 rolled plan (2 metres x 1 metre) |
Description | The plan is coloured, in faded browns and yellow inks, on linen and provides tremendous detail on the Lands in 1768. Gives outline drawing of the fields with the name of tenant farmer; lists acres, roods and falls; shows boundaries to Lands; Marches of Culsh; and roads. Also refers to standing stones - 'Standen Stones' - though they are not shown and it possibly refers to the name of a farm. The plan includes a striking square plantation laid out with intricate patterns of walkways and planting [this was probably not constructed as it is not visible in plan of 1809, MS 3479/2]. Surveyed by James May, surveyor. |
