Administrative HistoryWilliam Dalrymple lived with his wife, Mrs Dalrymple, in Tullos, Nigg, Aberdeen, c 1813 - 1837. Their son, Alexander Dalrymple, appears to have been a plantation owner or factor in Dominica, West Indies, during this period. Following a hurricane which struck the island in September 1834, he was appointed, with the Honorable Dugald Stewart and John Finlay, by the "Committee for the Relief of the Sufferers in the Hurricane on the 20th and 21st September", to assess the human and financial losses sustained and to appeal to the British government for financial assistance towards rebuilding the Colony. Other family members represented in this collection include William Dalrymple's sons, Robert Dalrymple, of London and Dominica, John Dalrymple, of London and Dominica, and 2 daughters, Mrs Eliza Ferguson, of Montreal, Canada, and Mrs Thomson.
