DescriptionSundry policies, agreements and correspondence, including telephone agreements (starting from 1916); water agreements (from 1920s); insurance policies (including glass insurance); and various licences (including licence for carbide of calcium, 1940s - 1950s, and ships wireless licences) for the North of Scotland Steam Navigation Company. Includes a permit for the use of goods - carrying vehicles, driven by means of motor spirit or gas, issued by the road transport board of the board of trade under the provisions of the road transport order, 1918; as well as the deed & rules between the North of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland Shipping Company Limited and W. Cooper & Son (Kirkwall) Limited and Robert Carson Mackie [General Manager for North of Scotland] and Norman Edmond, June & August 1960. Also includes a bundle of correspondence from M. McDonald of Leith Hull and Hamburg Steam Packet Co. Limited, Leith, to Jas. McCallum, North of Scotland Co., Leith, and Mr James Robertson, National Union of Dock Labourers and Riverside Workers, Leith, relating to the proposed reduction on the rate for bagging coal, September 1917 - August 1921. Correspondence includes article from the 'Scotsman' for 7 May 1921, relating to the Provisional National Council of Port Labour Employers (representing employers of dock labour) and the National Transport Workers' Federation, and their agreement to improve the status of dock labourers, output and time-keeping.
