Letter from Kosterlitz to Dr I.L. Chaikoff, Department of Physiology, University of California, requesting to visit Chaikoff's department en-route to a Symposium on Approaches to the Quantitative Description of Liver Function that he will be attending in San Francisco, 4 October 1956. With Chaikoff's reply (positive), 8 October 1956.

Correspondence with Sir Ernst Boris Chain (1906 - 1979), Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford and Instituto Superiore de Sanita, Rome, regarding mutual research interests, 1942 - 1960. The two men were both German scholars and like Kosterlitz, Chain's early career was spent in the Charité Hospital, Berlin, 1930-1933. He shared the 1945 Nobel Prize for Medicine with A. Fleming and H.W. Florey for his contributions towards the discovery of penicillin. After a distinguished career in Oxford and Rome, he took up the Chair of Biochemistry at Imperial College, London in 1964, where he remained until his retirement in 1973. This small collection of correspondence illustrates an enduring and respectful friendship which lasted throughout their lives. It includes:
A letter from Kosterlitz requesting details for setting up the type of drying apparatus used by Chain in his Oxford laboratory, 11 February 1942, and Chain's response which is accompanied by an annotated sketch, 4 March 1942.
A letter thanking Kosterlitz for his congratulations on Chain's Nobel Prize for Medicine, 28 November 1945, in which Chain states '... the recognition of my work by the Nobel Committee has given me very considerable encouragement' and continues '... I have seen many interesting developments in the States and hope to have soon an occasion to talk to you about these and other matters of common interest.'
Kosterlitz's draft letter of congratulations on Chain's appointment to the Chair of Biochemistry at Imperial College, London, 6 February 1960, with Chain's reply, briefly outlining his plans for his new department, 15 February 1960.

Correspondence with Dr Harriette Chick, Lister Institute of Preventative Medicine: Division of Nutrition, regarding experiments on the effects of different flour types or ratios (expressed as percentages of whole-meal) on rat's livers, 1945 - 1947. Contains detailed descriptions of experiments being undertaken by Kosterlitz in Aberdeen and Chick in Cambridge.

Letter from Nobuyuki Chujyo, Laboratory of Veterinary Pharmacology, University of Tokyo, seeking Kosterlitz's opinion on his research, 6 February 1953. With Kosterlitz's reply (encouraging), 7 April 1953.

Correspondence with Dr Robert A. Cleghorn, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University, Montreal, regarding a shared research interest in the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline on the rate of the denervated heart and plans to visit Cleghorn during research visits to the United States and Canada, 1950 - 1954.

Correspondence with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom, London, regarding extended support for E.A. Gyang's scholarship, 1962 - 1964. Gyang was undertaking research in Kosterlitz's laboratory, leading towards the degree of MSc in Pharmacology. N.B. This correspondence remains closed under data protection legislation until 2015.

Correspondence with Dr A.C. Corcoran, Research Division, Cleveland Clinical Foundation, regarding mutual research interests in increases in renal function during pregnancy, February - March 1954.

Correspondence with Professor Carl F. Cori, Washington Medical School, 1947 - 1957. Includes a draft letter from Kosterlitz congratulating Cori and his wife on their shared Nobel Prize for Medicine, 31 October 1947; letters regarding a proposed research visit to Cori, December - January 1953; and two letters regarding the death of Cori's wife, who Kosterlitz states '... I admired ... not only for her scientific achievements but also for the kindness she showed to her fellow men. By her action in 1933, she played a very large part in restoring my faith in mankind', November 1957.

Letter from Kosterlitz to HM Customs and Excise, Edinburgh, regarding the importation of a package of radioactive tritiated dihydromorphine hydrochloride from Dr. L.A. Wood of the State University of Iowa, 10 January 1964.

Letter from Kosterlitz to Dr D.P. Cuthbertson, Rowett Research Institute, Aberdeen, recommending his research assistant, Miss Campbell, for the post of Experimental Officier at the Rowett, 24 May 1951.
