Also includes Kosterlitz's reference for Furness for the 'Horace Le Marquand and Dudley Bigg Research Fellowship' [The Royal Society, London], May 1971. Includes a reference by Kosterlitz about Furness for 'The Life Insurance Medical Research Fund of Australia and New Zealand', July 1971. N.B. ?remains closed under data protection legislation.

Includes a letter, dated 31 May 1971, from Furness, saying that he had 'just received notice that I have been elected to a Beit Fellowship', that he & his wife, Lynne, intend to arrive in Birmingham in December, mentions that Kosterlitz's son [Michael] lives in Birmingham and says 'there will be another member of the family - Lynne and I are expecting the child to arrive in a few weeks time'.
