DescriptionCorrespondence from 1962 - 1967 was written whilst Eddy was based at the National Institutes of Health. Later correspondence, 1972 - 1973 appears to have been written during his retirement.

Correspondence relating to the sending of samples for scientific experiments and exchanging of their respective papers.

Letter of 8 January 1964, from Kosterlitz, explains that the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Blindness [NINDB] may be unable to continue providing Kosterlitz with funding for his 'research on the mechanism of action of morphine and other analgesics', as 'funds available to institutions outside the United States are limited'. Letter asks whether the Committee on Drug Addiction and Narcotics would be prepared to support Kosterlitz's research in part.
Reply from Eddy, dated 17 January 1964, is not favourable.

Letter, dated 9 May 1964, from Kosterlitz, says that the NINDB has renewed Kosterlitz's grant for another three years.

Letter of 2 May 1966, from Kosterlitz, mentions that his three - year period of PHS grant is almost at an end and that he has sent away his application for renewal.

Letters, dated April - December 1964, mention Eddy's visit to Aberdeen to give a Medical Faculty Lecture in October, and subsequent travels round the world.

Letter of 19 January 1966, mentions Kosterlitz's registration for the meeting of the Committee on Problems of Drug Dependence.

Correspondence in 1966 mentions that Kosterlitz and his wife, Hanna, visited South America and the U. S. A.

Letter of 2 March 1967, from Kosterlitz, encloses the manuscript of Kosterlitz's contribution to the meeting of the Committee on Problems of Drug Dependence: H. W. Kosterlitz, R. J. Lydon and A. J. Watt, 'Antagonist Action of Naloxone on the Electrically Stimulated Longitudinal Muscle of the Guinea Pig Isolated Ileum'.

Letters, dated 22 January and 2 February 1972, relate to the bibliography of all publications directly or indirectly associated with the work of the Committee on Problems of Drug Dependence, which Eddy was trying to compile.

Letters, dated 11 & 17 March 1973, relate to the publication of Kosterlitz's 'Agonist and Antagonist Actions of Narcotic Analgesic Drugs'.

Significantly, the correspondence is addressed to Dr. Hans W Kosterlitz, rather than 'Professor' Hans W Kosterlitz.

Correspondence begins in April 1962. There are a number of gaps: between June 1962 and February 1963; March 1963 and January 1964; January - April 1964; December 1964 and January 1966; March - May 1966; September 1966 and March 1967; March 1967 and January 1972; and February 1972 and March 1973.
