Correspondence, dating from 1969, relate to the possibility of Kosterlitz and Casy collaborating with reference to the 'structure action relationship of synthetic compounds with narcotic analgesic agonist and antagonist activity'.

Correspondence, relates to the sending of samples of compounds for scientific testing and to Kosterlitz's and Casy's respective research and results. Also mentions the sending of reprints.

Includes brief correspondence with [and in reference to] Mr David M Staniforth [one of Casy's students in London], regarding the preparation and testing of scientific compounds.

Letters, dated 8 - 12 January 1973, mention Kosterlitz's plan to retire from his present post in September 1973, and start a Research Unit in Aberdeen.

Brief correspondence, dated September 1974, mentions the Helsinki Congress.

Handwritten letter, dated 14 November 1977, from Casy to Kosterlitz, explaining that he is 'writing a review for Prog. Med. Chem [Progress in Medicinal Chemistry] (Ed. Dr. ?Tucker) on Narcotic Analgesics that cover the period 1970 - 77 with emphasis on chemical aspects. I have included a main section on opioid peptides so have been much occupied with your own work in this field together with contributors to the Narcotics Club meetings of 1975 and 1976'. Letter asks Kosterlitz 'if a meeting of the club was held this year and if so whether details of the proceedings are or will be available'. Letter asks if Kosterlitz could read and criticise Casy's 'opioid peptide draft'. Letter also mentions that Casy had moved from academic to hospital pharmacy 'combined with a visiting appointment at the University of East Anglia ... but I still maintain my interest in medicinal chemistry research'.

Reply letter, dated 17 November 1977, from Kosterlitz, saying that 'The International Narcotics Research Conference (no longer Club) met as a Gordon Conference this year and there was no publication. The next meeting will take place in the Netherlands in July, 1978, and the proceedings will be published'. Kosterlitz also writes that he would be happy to read Casy's draft on opioid peptides.

Letter, dated 20 December 1977, from Kosterlitz, gives his opinions on Casy's draft.

Includes a copy of reprint journal: A. F. Casy, 'Probable Conformations of Some Reversed Esters of Meperidine as Solutes in Water. Conformational Factors in 4 - Phenylpiperidine Analgetics' reprinted from 'Journal of Medicinal Chemistry', 11 (1968), 188 - 191.

Letter, dated 19 March 1982, from Casy, includes a copy of reprint journal: A. F. Casy and F. O. Ogungbamila, '3 - Allyl analogues of fentanyl' reprinted from 'Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology', 34 (1982), 210. Letter also mentions that Casy 'returned from Canada in 1972 and after a few years in hospital pharmacy obtained a post once more in the academic field and still maintain a keen interest in narcotic analgesics'. Letter is annotated, 'Read 24/3/82'.

Brief correspondence, dated December 1984 - January 1985, relate to the 'peptide chapter of our [Casy's] forthcoming book'.

Includes an application for a research grant to the Science and Engineering Research Council by Casy et al of the University of Bath, May 1987. Annotated with 'Posted 22/5/87 F. C. MAIL Compliments Slip'.

Also, letter, dated 21 August 1987, from the Chemistry Committee Secretariat [?Tuckii Marson], to Kosterlitz, thanking him for his comments on Casy's grant application and telling him that the Committee decided that 'it should be recommended for support at low priority (beta) but insufficient funds were available for an award to be made'.
