Nicholas Chi - Kwan Ling, (b. 1940), was Assistant Research Professor in The Salk Institute (from 1974). Ling received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from San Jose State University in 1964 and a Ph.D. Degree in Organic Chemistry from Stanford University in 1969. Ling is senior director of peptide chemistry for Neurocrine Biosciences. He was awarded the Sidney H. Inghar Distinguished Service award of The Endocrine Society in 1994.

'The Salk Institute was established in the 1960s by Jonas Salk, M.D., the developer of the polio vaccine. His goal was to establish an institute that would explore questions about the basic principles of life. He wanted to make it possible for biologists and others to work together in a collaborative environment that would encourage them to consider the wider implications of their discoveries for the future of humanity'.

Includes brief correspondence with Dr Nicholas Chi - Kwan Ling, The Salk Institute, dated November 1976.

Letter, dated 22 February 1977, from Guillemin to Dr Konrad F. Springer, Germany, saying he does not think that there should be a monograph or journal on the endorphins at that time, as work on endorphins is just beginning.

Letter, dated 17 October 1977, from Kosterlitz, congratulates Guillemin on his receiving of the Nobel Prize for Medicine.

Correspondence between 1977 and 1978 relate to Kosterlitz's and Hanna's visit to the US, for the occasion of the 'symposium organized by the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation' held in Vancouver, 23 - 25 January 1978. Relates to their visit to Guilemin at The Salk Institute.

On March 1 Dr. Guillemin and his laboratory staff will move to The Whittier Institute for Diabetes and Endocrinology. Dr. Nicholas Ling will head the Department of Molecular Endocrinology; Dr. Andrew Baird the Department of Molecular and Cellular Growth Biology. Dr. Guillemin will occupy the Chair of Distinguished Scientist'. The card provides their new mailing address and other details.

Original file annotated, 'also Dr. Ling'.
