| Administrative History | Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board was established in 1934 to regulate and market milk production in the north east of Scotland. It existed as a statutory body until 1992, one of three District Boards operating in Scotland during this period. In 1992 it was succeeded by the Aberdeen Milk Company at Twinspires. The Aberdeen Milk Company was itself, taken over by Robert Wiseman Dairies in 1998.
The Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board replaced a voluntary scheme which had operated in the region before 1934 - the Aberdeen and District Milk Agency. The Agency was sold to the Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board on 31 July 1934, but continued to operate, albeit with a limited remit, until 1959. |
| Custodial History | Between 1992 and 1998 the records were stored in the premises of the Aberdeen Milk Company, at Twinspires. In 1998 they passed to Robert Wiseman Dairies, and subsequently to Dr Maitland Mackie, son of Sir Maitland Mackie, long-time Chairman of the Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board. |

| Description | The collection contains a complete series of minutes for the Board, from its inception in 1934 to its closure in 1992. They provide a full account of the Board's work, and make a valuable contribution towards a comprehensive and detailed history of dairy farming in the north east of Scotland, during this period. Also included in the deposit are financial records of the Board, 1852 - 1955, "Milk News: Journal of Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board" , 1952 - 1955, and minutes of Aberdeen and District Milk Agency, 1932 - 1959. |
