Date | 1836 - 1837 |
Extent | 73 items |
Description | Correspondence between Colonel John Gordon IV of Cluny and Dr. John Taylor, and related papers. Dr. John Taylor of Bristol believed himself to be related to the Gordons of Cluny and indeed to be Colonel Gordon's heir, and attempted to befriend the Colonel thinking him to be elderly and alone. The Colonel became disillusioned with him and the relationship became extremely acrimonious, culminating in threats of court cases. The correspondence here includes both Dr. Taylor's letters to Colonel Gordon and copies of Colonel Gordon's replies. The letters have been transcribed. |
