| Administrative History | Transport policy became a regional matter in 1975, and Aberdeen Corporation Transport Department became part of Grampian Regional Transport. The new Regional Council did not concern itself solely with Aberdeen but rather the wider area under its remit, with special attention on rural services. The Transport Act (1985) authorised bus deregulation and Grampian Regional Transport was incorporated as Grampian Regional Transport Ltd in 1986. It was still owned by the Council but now operated as a stand-alone 'municipal company' rather than a municipal department for transport. Grampian faced stiff competition from Northern Scottish for the first two years after deregulation but it also acquired some smaller local operators such as Mairs Coaches of Dyce. |
