Administrative HistoryThe first horse tram lines opened in 1874 but it was not until 1899 that the first electric line was opened. Horse trams operated with 8 horses per car. Horse bus services operated privately in Aberdeen from the 1860s, and Wiliam Bain supplied many city routes with his 'Bain's Buses.' The horse bus network continued to compete with the horse tram service until the early 1890s.
DescriptionBlack and white photographs of early twentieth century trams, some of which predate electrification. Also, one reproduction photograph of nineteenth century Aberdeen private horse bus company, 'Bains.'
