| Administrative History | George Dean graduated with honours from the University of Aberdeen, MA 1885 and M.B., C.M. 1889. Following graduation, he spent a year on the continent, working under eminent German and Austrian pathologists in both Berlin and Vienna. On his return, he was appointed assistant to David Hamilton, Professor of Pathology in the University of Aberdeen, and assistant pathologist at the Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen, 1892 - 1897. He took up the post of Superintendent of the Antitoxin Department of the British (now the Lister) Institute of Preventative Medicine at Sudbury in 1897, and in 1906 was transferred to Chelsea, where he took up the new post of Bacteriologist-in-Chief to the Lister Unit. At this same time he also became a member of the Medical Faculty and lecturer in bacteriology in the University of London. When the Chair of Pathology in Aberdeen became vaccant in 1908 he successfully applied for the post and remained here until his ealy death in 1914. |
