Datec 1950 - c 1952
Extent1 file
Creator NameAlexander Logie Stalker (1920 - 1987), Professor of Pathology, University of Aberdeen, 1969 - 1982
Administrative HistoryHaemochromatosis is a genetic disorder causing the body to absorb an excessive amount of iron from the diet. The iron is then deposited in various organs, mainly the liver, but also the pancreas, heart, endocrine glands, and joints. Stalker was interested in the cardiac features of haemochromatosis and identified a need for further research in this area. It is not known how far his research proposals were taken.
DescriptionThe papers in this file include case notes and pathology reports of Albert Rettie, a sufferer of haemochromatosis, who died from the disease in 1951, and whose case history Stalker presented to the British Pathological Society in 1952. It also includes outline proposals for further research on the cardiac features of haemochromatosis, post 1952.
