Description | Letter to the General from John Mackenzie, commenting on Telford's road report. Gives his suggestions, at length, on the best route for the Lochcarron road, and proposes that Telford be asked to consider a canal system linking up the lochs, as a cheaper alternative route from East to West. He suggests that the army provide pioneers of Highland origin for this as such work would not appeal to West Highlanders, and would certainly not provide an inducement to stop emigration. Durham |
