Family news; pooropinion of the Tory party " but I may be writing to a Tory and as I do not know your political opinions, had better say little". Narrative of circumstances connected with service of Captain Gordon, late of HMS Athole, on west coast of Africa in 1829-31. Defends his actions while on the African station as acting commander i place of Commodore Collier; arrival at Sierra Leone of Commodore Hayes; while anchored at Fernando Po his sufferings from an ulcer on his leg, and his wish to leave Africa as an invalid; Captain Webb appointed to the Athole in his place; defends himself from charges in court martial.
