Administrative HistoryDonal L. Byrne studied at St. John’s College, Cambridge and at the National University of Ireland. He was a lecturer in History of Art at Aberdeen University from 1977 to his death in 1988.
DescriptionNotes and copies of manuscripts, photographs, mid 20th century; Various manuscripts used in research, including three copies of 'Le Livre des propriétés des choses'; Part of MA dissertation, National University of Ireland, undated, c.1950; Teaching and research notes on art history, notably Dutch and Flemish artists, c 1950 - 1988. Also includes later deposit of an off-print of a paper written by Raymon Keaveney of the National Gallery of Ireland entitled 'Sciolante at the Palazzo Spada: Scipio Africano or Alexander the Great', taken from 'Scritti di storia dell'arte in onore di Frederico Zeri': enclosed is a letter, dated 12 September 1984, from Keaveney to Byrne requesting Byrne review a typescript [not identified] which had apparently been enclosed. The identifiable originals are Morgan Library MS 537, Herzog August Bibliothek, 'Le livre des propriétés des choses'; Huntingdon Library, California, HM27523; Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, 33150 and Bodleian Library, MS. D'Orville 141.
