DescriptionTranscript of letter from Robert Laws,Kongoni mouth of the Zambesi River, to unknown clergyman, made by Amelia Laws c.1950, explaining that he has had little time at Cape Town or at Algoa Bay, brief account of journey from Algoa Bay to Kongoni, building a shed to shelter them while they build a river-going vessel, 'I am Jack of all trades. Prescribing for some sick one, felling a tree, putting up the frames and plates of the [river boat] or pulling an oar - all have had to come alike to me since we came here', favourable comparison between the natives and Scottish apprentices, those influenced by the Portuguese seem downtrodden, description of their clothing (limited), their general good health, the effect of sickness - 'a gaunt spectacle which soon makes one long that the blessings of the gospel were theirs', tattoos, transport of belongings upriver, urgent as the river is becoming low, hopes of sending another letter from Mazarere, mention of his companion Mr. Young, asking for a copy of the recipient's address at Robert's ordination.
