Delord is kind to them but best with the little ones; there is also a Russian boarder; visit of some soldiers with the pastor and resultant organ work for Amelia; the Methodist service is much better than the one they attended last week; the church is devoted to the support of soldiers and the building is used for their quiet recreation during the week; she has enjoyed her first week of study; the Italian girls do not work hard and in general the quality of students is disappointing; the professors are not the best, who are at the front, but she likes them; there are four English speakers, and the Englishman amongst them is to go as a missionary to Madagascar; he is not as good at language as he thinks he is and his accent is terrible; the Russians have a low opinion of him; she enjoys the lectures on Molière and on the mediaeval material; Uncle and Aunt like Grenoble and are staying on in the hotel until Uncle's departure around the 24th., when Aunt will move to stay with Amelia. |
