DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Hotel Beau Site, Chamonix, Haute Savoie, France, to her relatives, regarding good sermon on the history of the French Protestant Church; summary of its history and persecution; cold weather; Uncle wants to return to warmer climes; visit to the Plan de Chablettes; Aunt did very well, particularly as her feet were attended to as soon as they returned home; she and Uncle are both very well; Amelia is studying some French summer classes while they are there, connected with the University at Grenoble; the summer school was founded eighteen years ago but is thin this year because of the war; Uncle has agreed that she can move to Grenoble for September to study; he is eager to move because it will be warmer there; he will probably have to go to see various colporteurs in the north of Italy in mid-October; Uncle has been asked by Mr. Falconer to write something for the British Society Quarterly Record on the work done for soldiers in Italy; the pastor has found a replacement for her as organist from the end of August; Uncle has had a letter from Mr. G.B. Barbour, Dr. Barbour's son, who has been working all winter with the Royal Army Medical Corps at Yprès; he is to accompany the ambulance unit to Italy; he would have finished at Cambridge last July but that is postponed; letter from Dr. Brock who has been appointed Consulting Physician to the ambulance unit; Dr. Brock is very happy and Mrs. Brock will be delighted as she has been attending courses at the Middlesex Hospital on preparation of rooms and equipment for operations; mention of the engagement of Dorothy Moir and Duncan Macgregor; criticism of war marriages; how many girls are prepared to become the breadwinners if their husbands return crippled or nerve-wrecked?
