DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Hotel Beau Site, Chamonix, Haute Savoie, France, to her relatives, regarding a smooth service this week; practical sermon; general collection for poor families already bereaved; Red Cross service in the Roman Catholic church during the week; there has been some change in visitors - some have left and others, including some convalescing nerve-cases, have arrived; birthday visit to the Mer de Glace; Amelia unable to walk far because of a mosquito bite which has led to a swollen ankle; fortunately the viewpoint is best from the station at Montanvert; beautiful day; much amusement over people's preparation for walking on the ice; treatment of the bites with lead lotion; visit to Argentières, of which she included a picture postcard [no longer with the letter]; description of local glaciers; Uncle is enraptured with the Glacier des Bossons; there is still daily blasting going on for the suspension railway up to Pierre Pointue but work is slow; she has been reading a History of Savoy, and summarises some of it.
