DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, 7 Via Venti Settembre, Rome, to her relatives, regarding news of Mrs. Kemp and Mrs. Beveridge; Miss Richardson should not write so much as she has no gift for it; hoping Aunt Amy had a good birthday on the 20th.; poor congregation leading to low collections; Miss Jazdowska has been bothering Uncle about wanting a supply of electric light, and the case has drawn in the Brocks [There were Jazdowskis associated with teaching and art in Aberdeen: James Bronislas Jazdowski, son of John, teacher in Aberdeen, graduated from Marischal College in 1856 and according to an annotation of the Search Room student list died in Rome in 1902]; the whole building should be supplied at once, but this would be costly; she is a troublesome tenant; Amelia declining to help with Mrs. Brock's ambulatorio; Mrs. Brock looks generous but is not; her mistreatment of Fulvio and Oscar and her maid; Muriel Brock is spoilt; Miss Jazdowska's schemes to get information on the first aid lectures, because Dr. Brock forbade her to go; Aunt is convinced that Miss Jadowska has promised to leave her money (£4,000) to Muriel Brock as nothing else would make the Brocks so pleasant to her; Dr. Brock has already got £1,000 out of Miss Thomson; Mr. Gibson calls Mrs. Brock a cad; dinner for Mary Irving, Mary Rossi and Miss Wardlaw, all nursing at the Policlinico; Mr. Walker, Mr. McConnell, Mr. Burns and Mr. van Eych are to come for coffee; Mr. van Eych is attaché to the Dutch Embassy and very pleasant; he has a wooden arm so has done well to get to his present position; Mr. Burns is to move to Milan, where Singer is transferring for tax purposes.
