DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Bergstrasse 33, Dresden, Germany, to her relatives, regarding the weather and Aunt walking in the cold; viewing of new rooms on next floor up; not perfect but will be very good; cleaning is irregular and the beds are poor; there are no blankets, only a large quilt inside a bag [a duvet, presumably]; shortage of staff; custom of meals for staff at pensions; the kitten has had a bad fall and may need to be put down; Fraulein Alberti has pushed her voice too far during lessons, and she insisted on consulting a Frau Wedekind to see what could be done; drastic measures as regards limiting practice and lessons; new teacher an American called Fraulein Albrecht, training as an oratorio singer; her parents were against her singing; reluctant to become an opera singer as not her class; she does not like any of the churches in Dresden; Amelia agrees that the English services are poor; Fraulein Albrecht says that the German ones are as bad; too much socialising and too little spirituality; Amelia refusing to have a lesson on Sunday; Uncle's bronchial tubes still very sensitive; he is now in Rome; enclosing letter from Dr. Bonar in which he claims to have heard that Uncle is suffering from appendicitis, double pneumonia and bronchitis; unsuitability of the Bonar boys for missionary work; Lily Boxer's marriage; Edinburgh slow to welcome the Chapman Alexander meetings.
