DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Rome, to her relatives, reporting that Aunt is in bed exhausted, Maria has been able only to come in for an hour, Amelia wanted to go to the American Church but has decided to stay at home, the heat is awful, the worst May in living memory, storms are not cooling the atmosphere, rumour that the heat is due to the juxtaposition of Jupiter, Mars and Venus, the grain is not developing, it was the hardest week Amelia has ever known, confusion over packing and valuing linen, they have been able to fit in more than they expected, but it has been a rush, problems with the electrician, 'a young man too elegant to work', visit in the midst of everything from Mrs. Hossle Henderson, visit later from Paul Rossi, telegram from Mr. Gray regarding departure of the Thirlstane Road tenant, hoping now to relet it for just a year, visit from Mr. Fenwick, visit to the Embassy in hopes of seeing their boxes safely through customs, visit by Aunt to Mme. Poitet on behalf of Paul Rossi, 'sorely tried by her capricious ways'.
