DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, 7 Via Venti Settembre, Rome, to her relatives, thanking for mail which now seems to be arriving as usual; pleased Aunt Amy likes her new quarters; new maid Margherita has been pilfering food; she has also been leaving without permission to meet her fiancé; when she is told to find a new place she tries to leave straightaway; she is bitter against her mother for having had eleven children, but her father is in the asylum and it is a drain on the family's resources; Uncle has proposed a reception on St. Andrew's Day which is the day Margherita leaves and a day Maria does not usually come in, as well as Amelia's lesson day; Aunt is already tired; Uncle is cross that she will not attend tea parties because they wear her out; he is also angry that the curtains have taken so long to repair; they needed a special curtain for the bath now that the douche has been installed; no outside news.
