Extent3 sheets + carbon copy
DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Metz, to her relatives, saying that she has just returned from a sacred concert in the Protestant church, M. Brunel had wanted her to play at it but she is glad she did not, as it was not artistic, the organ has lost its front pipes, no strangers are allowed to play the organ as repairs have been costly, permission must be sought from the Presbyterial Council, and she might do that as she now has some time on a Sunday, illness of Mlle. Stoufflet, Dr. Louis has died, her illness is minor and is brought on by overwork, the week has been pleasant as a consequence, the weather is fine after a hurricane, not as cold as Valence, the south is at the mercy of winds off Switzerland, the fruit and blossom at Metz are beautiful, wishes she could send examples to her relatives, provisions are good but clothing is dull, she will send on some postcards she has bought, Plantieres is a suburb near the railway station, '15 mins walk from the Cathedral but we are practically in the country', she hopes to explore soon, arrival of new nurse, Mlle. Salomon, who has been put in the single room promised to Amelia, she has now moved into a kitchen which was up to recently inhabited by a cock, but can be cleaned out and made pleasant and is not a passage to anywhere, Mlle. Stoufflet seems eager to impress Mlle. Salomon, who is only there for a few weeks to help with the influenza cases, she is connected with Mme. Carnot in Paris so that is no doubt why she is being treated well.
