DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Aviemore, Crieff, to her parents, regarding Uncle's last Sunday in Crieff, his imminent departure for Buchan, Aunt and Amelia will go to Edinburgh the following week, Aunt Amy 'really is a caution and is becoming a permanent cloud in the household, capricious, self-satisfied, self-centred and critical to a degree', Uncle is much improved and sees to Aunt's needs, preferring her to his other sister, unlikely stories of Aunt Amy being mistaken for an angel and for a pretty girl, she objects to Amelia spending so long writing to her parents, Aunt is much better, unexpected visit from Dr. Nicoll and his memories of Pontresina, Dr. George Smith, elderly, bedridden, and deaf, longs to go to Livingstonia, visit to Mr. and Mrs. Sloan to meet her two aunts, one of whom is married (as her fourth husband) to Professor Musgrave of St. Andrews - her third husband was Professor Pettigrew - and the other of whom is a town councillor in Belfast, visit to the Misses Lammie and characters met there, too many social engagements, visit to the Highland Gathering, dancing by men and boys, demonstrations by the Scots Greys, meeting with Mr. Fleming, banker, whose brother was a classmate of Amelia's father, change in weather.
