TitleLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws to her relatives
Date11 May 1919
Extent2 sheets + carbon copy
DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Valence, to her relatives, regarding an unnewsworthy week; plans for playing hymns for the service; description of the organ, on which she has now practised; Mlle. Breynat has told her that several 201 staff are coming to hear her play; arrangements for possible practice on the organ at St. Jean; Mlle. Breynat was not pleased at Amelia taking over Jaussaud's massage; they had set him back, but he is now almost ready to leave; he had a double fracture and a dislocation of the foot; his sisters from Briançon have visited her and brought her a pretty paperweight; Guérin is making good progress and enjoying it; his left amputated leg was the strong one, as the sciatic nerve in the other one has been sutured; he will be sent to Lyon for electrical treatment when possible; it is possible that she will not be replaced when she leaves as the hospital has a tendency to over-economise; the closing of the 201 is now uncertain again; there might be a month's reprieve; in France they say 'Don't obey, but interpret the orders received'; the service did not go badly though she was far from the congregation with 'a useless choir'; the church and hospital together would wear her out in Valence; people do not recognise the mental strain of work even when they appreciate the physical side; correspondence with former patients and with Miss Gatliff who wants to know their plans; she as a nurse will be able to travel to Paris at the expense of the state; she is hoping to have her travel paperwork sorted out soon. [Letter breaks off without signature]
