DescriptionLetter from Maggie Laws, Livingstonia, to her daughter, Amelia Nyasa Laws, regarding lateness in answering her mails, glad that she was recovering from her midsummer illness, glad that her aunts and Uncle James have been kind to her, gifts from Sir John Cowan, including an elaborate mission box, advice on using it, mention of the Roses and Mrs. Goldie of Stirling, numbers of missionaries and their children at Mr. Currie's church, violin lessons, knitting, she can no longer knit, mention of Mr. Lochhead and Mr. Fraser, cousins, description of Amelia's new house, envious of the gas stove, or even coal-fired, approval of her dress, and of her first sewn buttonhole, new winter term starting, hoping she is fit for it and not working too hard, her receipt of prizes, having to have her hair cut off, the consolation being that it will not be so tatty, [the final page may be from some other letter] spring cleaning, hoping for good results from college, affectionate memories of Mr. Murray, whose sister has just died from inflammation of the lungs, arrival of calf and kid, news of dogs.
