DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, 7 Via Venti Settembre, Rome, to her relatives, regarding Uncle's cold; he refused treatment as he had a busy schedule; caused by a long meeting at the new Patriotic League with an open window; she and Aunt wish he would drop all committee work; his refusal of treatment meant he missed all his engagements; he was able to see Fattori, publisher in Florence, but he is still not better; final arrangements for Mrs. Lovell's trunk; busy week with music lessons and Dr. Brock's first aid classes; Aunt is not to study for her certificate as she is busy enough; more peaceful terms with Miss Stewart, fellow pupil at first aid; Amelia's success at the course; another lady attributes it to her father being a doctor, but she denies it, saying she has hardly seen her father; Uncle is delighted at this mystery for the other pupils; Amelia attributes her skill to hard work; heavy rain has swelled the Tiber; the city will be flooded if it goes on; engineers working to save the new bridge; danger of flooding in local villages.
