DescriptionLetter from Maggie Gray, The School House, Crimond, to Robert Laws, thanking him for his letter which arrived at a mysteriously late hour; buying ginger for her throat in the damp weather; reading and writing letters; James Robertson bringing honey and cream from Lonmay and arranging meeting of large party at the Links at Botany; Maggie to accompany them; croquet equipment taken, to her disgust; picnic near the coastguard station; examination of the rocket apparatus; threatening weather; sheep grazing on the bents; visit to the ruins of Rattray Chapel, and brief description; admiration of the lake and its changing aspect; heavy rain; row over the croquet avoided by crocheting indoors; wine-negus at supper encouraging some personal remarks that should not have been said; Mr. Leask, the new minister, may have been shocked; Sunday visit to Lonmay to hear Dr. Gray from Edinburgh preach.
