Administrative HistoryThese papers relates to plans for a new Medical School and Anatomy Department in the University of Aberdeen that were never fully realised. Lockhart's appointment to the Aberdeen Chair was made partly on the back of the success of his new Anatomy Department in the University of Birmingham, and it is clear that he intended to create a new department in Aberdeen upon similar lines. He had already sent copies of the Birmingham plans to Professor Low, some time prior to his appointment, under the impression that the new Aberdeen department would join the University's clinical departments at the newly-developed 'joint hospitals' site at Forresterhill, Aberdeen (as is evidenced in a memorandum written by Lockhart in 1962 - see MS 3270/2/1/2/2).

Although some improvements and modernisation of the department were effected, it remains within the Medical School's original complex at Marischal College, to date (2004).
