Administrative HistoryThe Society was established on 7 April 1862, and enrolled by Act of Parliament on 2 May 1862. It was founded by a few working class men in the city of Aberdeen, initially operating as a sickness and funeral benefit society, but by the 1880s had expanded its business to include endowment and endowment assurance policies. The Society continued to handle all of these benefits until the introduction of the National Insurance Act in 1948. After this time, its welfare benefit schemes were wound up, and the Society concentrated upon development and expansion of its Life Assurance policies. On 1 March 1973 the Society amalgamated with the Hearts of Oak Benefit Collecting Society to form the London, Aberdeen and Northern Collecting Society (later known as the London, Aberdeen and Northern Mutual Assurance Society Limited).

Prior to amalgamation, the Society had concentrated its business in Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland. In 1962, it had 28 agents in the City of Aberdeen and 3 others covering the districts of Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Elgin and the Moray Coast, Huntly, Inverurie and Stonehaven.
