TitleCongresses of the Medical Women's International Association
Date1934 - 1980
Extent13 files
DescriptionPapers relating to congresses of the Medical Women's International Association, attended by Mary Esslemont, 1934 - 1980. Each file normally contains official printed matter, including Congress programme, delegates' list, social programme, social invitations, and abstracts of papers presented (occasionally, full typescripts of papers). Mary Esslemont's own notes and printed material from medical, social or educational institutions visited during the Congress are also sometimes present.

In most instances, tour operators offered congress delegates the opportunity of combining their trip with a guided holiday to take in local sites, or spend some time in countries passed through on long-haul flights. Mary Esslemont made the most of such opportunities and normally also managed to incorporate Soroptimist business or other medical meetings into each trip. As a result, her congress files normally also include one or more tourist map, guide book or other souvenir.
