Administrative HistoryAberdeen Association for Improving the Condition of the Poor was established in 1870. In 1947 its name was changed to Aberdeen Association of Social Service. Merger with several other local voluntary agencies (Linn Moor, Aberdeen Children's Society, Richmond House and Aberdeen Old People's Welfare Council) took place during 1973-74 and in 1978 it adopted a new title, Voluntary Service Aberdeen.
DescriptionAddress supporting of the work of Aberdeen Association of Social Service, possibly given to the annual meeting of the Association, 1967. Acknowledges the continued (indeed, increased) importance of voluntary associations following the introduction of the Welfare State, illustrated by a few local examples, including The Children's Shelter and the recently-opened Association Thrift Shop.
