Administrative HistoryMary Esslemont visited Canada in September 1948. During this trip, she also spent two days in New York and one day in Philadelphia.
DescriptionNotes entitled 'Impressions of Canada, September 1948'; letters sent from Mary Esslemont to her mother during her Canada trip, 3 - 24 September 1948; and four printed booklets: 'The Japanese Canadians', 'Frontier of Destiny - The Canadian Arctic', 'Soviet Policy Abroad', 'Canada in a Two-Power World.'

In her final letter, she responds to her mother's news of John Taylor's appointment as Principal [of Aberdeen University] by saying "I don't know if it will be a popular appointment or not, but I think he will be an excellent Principal from every point of view. And Mrs Taylor will rise to the occasion I think. She has great ability, even if she is a bit bossie."
