Administrative HistoryMary Esslemont served for 43 years on the business committee of the University of Aberdeen's General Council, and in 1937 became the first women assessor elected to the University Court, in which capacity she remained for 27 years. Her long service to the University was acknowledged by the award of LLD in 1954.
DescriptionCorrespondence concerning the candidature and election of Mary Esslemont as General Council assessor on the University Court, October - November 1937. Includes over forty letters of support from members of the General Council and a printed flyer distributed after her election, outlining the unique nature of the election, with a list of her supporters and the election result.
