Administrative HistoryThe inaugural meeting of the Scottish Convention of Women was held in Edinburgh on the 5 February 1977. Its formation was prompted by the success of International Women's Year, which had done much to foster contacts, co-operation and initiatives promoting and improving the lives of women across the world.

A steering committee of fourteen women was appointed in March 1976, with members drawn from existing national social, political, and economic women's organisations, including the British Federation of University Women, the Scottish Pre-School Playgroups Association, the Scottish Council of Women Citizens Associations, the Scottish Women's Rural Institute, the Scottish Trades Union Congress, Labour Women, Conservative Women, the Scottish National Party, and the Scottish Council of Social Services.
