Administrative HistoryJohn Lawrence Baird, Viscount Stonehaven (born 1874, died 1941) married Lady Ethel Sydney Keith-Falconer, daughter of the 9th Earl of Kintore, in 1905.
DescriptionDiaries of John Lawrence Baird, covering his diplomatic duties in the Sudan and Abyssinia 1897 to 1903 and in the Middle East 1913, and his intelligence work in the Great War 1914 and 1915. In them, Baird provides accounts of his discussions with leading politicians, military leaders, and diplomats, and presents his own views on British policy.

Baird had his hand-writen diaries typed up by a typing agency (or in the case of the early diaries, printed), and in some cases both the manuscript and typed versions are present.

The National Library of Australia, Canberra, holds a collection of Baird's papers, including his diaries for September and October 1919 and his diary for 1941.

Please note that Baird's diary (typescript) for 26 Dec 1902 to 16 Jan 1903, NRA(S) survey 1318 volume 128, was not deposited and current location is unknown.
