Description | Manuscript headed 'A short, but distinct and faithful account of the building of the Roman Catholic Chapel at Preshome founded the year 1788 and finished 1790'. No author is given, but the account is evidently by Mr John Reid, the priest at Preshome who was the architect of the chapel at Presholme, or by a close supporter. The manuscript gives details of the fundraising for the construction, evidently intended to counter rumours and criticisms of Mr Reid, and of the design process and the progress of the works, together with the further financing of the project and the settlement of loans from James Gordon of Letterfourie and others. 52 pages, undated but describing events up to August 1797. |
