| Description | Forbes has discussed the changes in the 1800 edition of Hume's essays with Hume's nephew, who told him that Hume had spent the summer before his death on a revision of the essays and that the changes inin the 1800 editionn were therefore by Hume and not by the publisher. Accordingly Forbes has decided not to go into the matter in his publication. The Life of Dr Beattie has now been published and Forbes has now received four of the large-paper copies. "Mr Constable declares it to be most magnificent book ever published in Scotland". Discusses recipients of the copies. |
