George Glennie married James Beattie's niece, Margaret Valentine. He succeeded Beattie in 1796 as professor of Moral Philosophy at Aberdeen University. During the late 1790s, James Beattie was cared for by his great - niece Margaret Valentine and her husband George Glennie. In 1799, Beattie suffered a series of strokes and was totally helpless before he died in Aberdeen on 18 August 1803. |
