Description | Letter from J Cranford, Exeter, to Sir Alexander Cranford, ?Bart Welham near Retford [or ?Bedford] Nottinghamshire, informing his father that he received both of his letters at the same time - one from Mr Davidson [?John Davidson (c.1724 - 1797), antiquary and lawyer] and the other from Mr Beattie. Letter mentions 'the nature of Mr Davidson's delicacy' and briefly talks about the contents of the letters, gives praise to Beattie, mentions Beattie's piety and says that Beattie is a good example to others. Letter mentions Beattie's loss [?of James Hay Beattie; died 19 November 1790] and Cranford writes that he will take the letters on his visit to see his father. |
