DescriptionLetter from Mary Beattie, Gordon Castle, to Lady Mayne, mentioning Lady Mayne's illness and the recovery of Mr Beattie's health, which had hindered his College business. Also letter talks about how the Beatties spent the summer and autumn - to Tay mouth, by Dunkeld and Blair of Athol. Mrs Beattie writes how Mr Beattie had not benefited much from these visits and talks about the Duke and Dutchess of Gordon. Letter mentions that Mr Beattie is not allowed to use pen & ink, on pain of death, unless he writes to Lady Mayne. Mrs Beattie writes about her letter to Miss Reynolds and asks about the Dutchess of Portland, Mrs Montagu and Sir Joshua Reynolds. Mrs Beattie mentions her smelling bottle, and describes Gordon Castle: "Gordon Castle stands on the Banks of the Spey, sixty miles north West from Aberdeen. It is already a noble pile of Building, and when finished will be one of the noblist in the Kingdom, being no less than five hundred and sixty eight feet in length".
