Administrative HistoryJames Williamson [1743-1813] was a pupil of Beattie at Marischal College, probably around 1759-1763. Listed in the Marischal Fasti as becoming a minister in the Church of Scotland. He was at St Alban's Hall, Oxford, in 1768-1772. He was Fellow of Hertford College in 1783. He studied Mathematics and wrote a treatise on Euclid. He was a strong admirer of Beattie, who in return advised Williamson on his studies
DescriptionDeferred writing until he had the reviews for last month. No mention in Critical Review, but Monthly Reviewers have finished their account. Remarks on te whole favourable. Everyone who has read the book praises it highly. Williamson hopes second edition will be ready as soon as possible and believes a third edition will be needed within twelve months. Thinks Beattie should publish the Minstrel with his name because it will help the sale of it
