TitleWilliam Mason to James Beattie from Aston
Date22 October 1773
Extent1 Item
Administrative HistoryWilliam Mason [1724-1797] Poet, Canon of York, friend and biographer of Thomas Gray
DescriptionDisappointed not to have seen Beattie on his return from London. Pleased about pension. Proceeds very slowly in memoirs of Gray - his hopes of seeing Beattie, and having his opinion on the part already written, made him relax. Including poems will make a well sized quarto. Needs letters themselves from Beattie rather then fragments. Will put money from Gray's life to charitable purpose - send young man to Cambridge. Refers to Gray's comments in copy of the Minstrel
