Administrative HistoryJames Chalmers [1742-1810]. Aberdeen printer, publisher of Aberdeen Journal.
DescriptionAsks Chalmers before he leaves London to call on Cadell and try to get Beattie's account settled. Cadell owes Beattie fifty guineas copy money for second volume of Elements, less the price copies Cadell sent as presents. Creech has written twice to Cadell about this but had no answer, and Beattie wrote a week ago. He has printed 200 copies of James Hay Beattie's papers, in prose and verse, Latin and English. He did it on account of extraordinary merit of some of the pieces, and on advice of friends. Only to be distributed to friends. Chalmers will get a copy, and Beattie is sending one to 'our excellent friend Mr Bonnor' in gratitude for his kindness and hospitality when Beattie and his son lodged with him in Broad street.
