Administrative HistoryMargaret Valentine [1763-1836]. Beattie's niece, daughter of his sister Jean Valentine. From 1783 she spent increasing amount of time managing Beattie's household, and became his housekeeper in the 1790s. She married George Glennie - Beattie's assistant -in 1797. She inherited Beattie's possessions, including Reynolds portrait
DescriptionBeattie and Montagu in London, staying with Williamson, who is showing Montagu all the sights. He had a glimpse of the King and Queen and visited several locations. Speaks with Mr Matthew and Mrs Montagu, whom he greatly like, with ease and familiarity. Beattie missed Duchess of Gordon who has left for Scotland. Bishop of London called, and they are going to him at Fulham. The copper plates and all the copies except three of a drawing of Beattie's head were destroyed in a fire. Cadell offered to give original drawing which cost ten guineas to Montagu. Engraving cost twenty-eight guineas, but this was a small part of the Cadell's loss.
