Administrative HistoryMargaret Valentine [1763-1836]. Beattie's niece, daughter of his sister Jean Valentine. From 1783 she spent increasing amount of time managing Beattie's household, and became his housekeeper in the 1790s. She married George Glennie - Beattie's assistant -in 1797. She inherited Beattie's possessions, including Reynolds portrait
DescriptionProblems with James Valentine's naval pension - Beattie had applied to chest at Chatham. Beattie had dined with Sir Charles Middleton, who had laid the matter before the governors, but sent disappointing answer. Refers to Mrs Wright's health. Campbell would not wait for Beattie to finish all visits - left by Berwick smack. Campbell has disposed of his book to the press.
